This Friday, my old partner and I will be teaching a class on blogging. Yup, some MLS brass thought we could blab on the subject for 8 hours. (I guess that leaves a whole hour for Rudy to talk
I prepared my part of the PowerPoint presentation and thought I’d share this tip on embedding YouTube video into a Microsoft PowerPoint presentation. (Note: Since I use a PC, I’m not sure if this video voodoo works on a Mac.) Anyway, here goes.
First, pick the PP slide template where you want the video to appear.
Step 1:
Get to the Control Toolbox this way: View>Toolbars>Control Toolbox
Click Control Toolbox and then click “More Controls” to get to the Shockwave Flash Object. Double Click that puppy: (then close the Toolbox)
Now this funny square with an X in it should appear. You can pull at any location to change the shape and size of the video.
Now, right click the square and click “Properties” :
You are almost there. After clicking “Properties”, double click “Custom”.
This is where you’ll embed the YouTube URL, with a slight modification as follows:
Here is the original YouTube URL I copied:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=12yD8JyaVvY
Here is the modified version: http://www.youtube.com/v/12yD8JyaVvY
I removed watch? and replaced the = with /. Simple.
Paste this modified URL in the Movie URL box. Make sure the Embed Movie box is unchecked.
Now just click Apply, then OK. You’re done. Save your PP presentation (that wasn’t so bad)
When you view the Slide Show, the video box will appear where you put it. Just click the arrow to play (Remember, your computer has to be online for the video to play during the PowerPoint presentation).
Here’s a screenshot of the video taken from my PP slideshow
Class dismissed.
