Dinner at the Clinic: Bizarre Themed Restaurants

Bizarre themed restaurants are popping up all over Asia. The Clinic in Singapore seats diners in wheelchairs in a medical themed restaurant and bar. People are dying to get in. (You saw that coming didn’t you?)

You have to take this one lying down.

Taipei’s DS Music Restaurant also has a healthy hospital theme. Food is served by waitress nurses and you take your alcoholic medicine through IV tubes or hypodermic syringes.

In the US, our own version of the medical theme eatery is the Heart Attack Grill in Tempe, Arizona.

After a hearty meal at the Heart Attack, you may have to rush to the…..(segway)

Toilet Bowl Restaurant in Shenzhen, China. I don’t know about this one. You know what they say about eating where you … sit ;). Finding the restroom might pose a challenge.

There is JAIL, also in Taipei where customers are handcuffed (optional) and eat behind bars. The menu is limited to bread and water. (nah, just kidding)

Finally, this strange restaurant is in Beijing, China. At the Dark Restaurant, you eat in the … you guessed it, dark. Yes, a pitch black room. The waiters wear night vision goggles and check on you with flashlights. (Or is it to find your credit card?). Another place where finding the restrooms may be a problem.

And I thought Jekyll & Hyde Club in Manhattan was a strange themed restaurant.

What unusal themed restaurants have you come across? (Add the link if you have it.)

Is this type of unusual branding applicable to marketing real estate services?

I’ve been to the Heart Attack Grill many times (too many probably). The burgers are great, and the “scenery” is even better…

I blogged about them over a year ago here:

Yo no hablo inglés.

There are many fabulous restaurants, bars and cafés across the world, but they all merge into one after a while, don’t they? Not this lot…

But I found a truly unique dining or drinking experience on this post, these themed restaurants, gimmicky bars, offbeat cafés and unusual wineries are fabulous for their novelty factor if nothing else.
