Home Windmills Save Electric Costs

According to a post in Engadget by Evan Bass, this residential use windmill can provide 90% of the yearly power needs of your home. The one pictured, Southwest Windpower’s Skystream 3.7, has the ability to auto-switch to public utility power if the wind falls to a zephyr-like 8 m.p.h. or less.

The cost for this Don Quixote dream machine is about $8,500, with tower, installed. But before you go out and buy one of these wind-catchers, check your local zoning regs and the amount of hot air that blows through your town.
