You can convert 30% more buyers if you get them to visit a personalized About Us page. According to a case study by MarketingSherpa, Evogear.com did just that. They added photographs & profiles of all employees, not just the big honchos. And the photos & profiles are anything but corporate (see above). It said to customers: “We’re down home everyday folks who love our jobs.” If they’re having this much fun, Evogear must be a company that cares about people. Hey, I’m a people; they must care about me too.

Not only did they personalize the About Us page they promoted it strongly with a Home Page photobox which said: “Who is Evogear. Click here to find out more about us.” They also added a link on every product page which said “Why buy from Evogear”. And taking a page from the My Space social networking model, they added buttons so userd could directly contact an employee or “Customer Service”. The message: Accessible people, personal service 24/7.

Evogear’s results: Those that clicked the About Us page converted into buyers at a rate 30% higher than those who did not visit. Just another example of a Community Web (2.0) mindset.
