The Search for Smarter Search: Do the Huckabuck

huckabuck.gif

Google is great, but we believe everything can be improved or enhanced, including search. Huckabuck is out to improve search with an easy user interface.

Huckabuck is a metasearch engine that searches several search engines at once. Not new. Dogpile has been doing it for years. Huckabuck’s innovation? Search tuner. Search tuner lets you personalize your search with a graphic equalizer interface (a bar scale). If you prefer Yahoo search to MSN, up the bar for Yahoo and decrease it (or turn it off) for MSN. The choice of search engines is limited to 6. But if increased to, dare I say it, ALL the search engines, you’ve really got something here. Applying the interactive tuner to other aspects of search (winnowing) can only enhance the user search experience.

Like Sellsius, Huckabuck is a grassroots company looking to improve the way people use the Internet to search. They also have a Social Mission to help New Orleans, their hometown. We wish Huckabuck great success!

For those curious about name origins, a huckabuck is a homemade frozen desert popular in New Orleans. It’s similar to a snow-cone.

Hat tip: Ubertor.

I’ve been digging Huckabuck too. I was somehow linked to them about a week ago, and have really enjoyed the personality and “feel” that their company has. They’re good at marketing too, always something new and strange to catch your attention.

Huckabuck had us thinking about applications to real estate. Have you been to their blog?

Yeah, I love the service and enjoy their blog as well. I actually just caught up on their API idea, which I think is brilliant.
