FlyClear has created a pass that supposedly allows air travelers to zip past airport security lines, while the rest of the folks are still waiting for the chance to take off their shoes. Can this be true?
Here’s what Clear promises:
- Get through airport security in under 4 minutes (I’m sold already)
- Access a designated Clear lane (like getting to the front of the line at Disney’s Space Mountain)
- Attendants and concierges help you through the Clear lane (you rock star, you)
- Clear card is good at airports nationwide (15 so far) (Gotta get one before Inman Connect)
Apply online or in person for the Clear Card. You’ll need your passport and drivers license (or other approved ID). You should get the Clear card in 2-4 weeks. You must be over 12 years of age (unlike those Disney passes). Link to enrollment locations here. (11 states so far)
Hmm…. if this works as promised, everyone will have a card and we’ll all be back in line again (but at least we’ll be able to keep our shoes on– hey, be thankful that guy didn’t try to smuggle a bomb in his underwear.)
The total cost for the Clear card is $128.
Has anyone gotten one of these babies?

Wow. So, what about those people that the security is supposed to protect us from? What’s to stop one of them from paying $128 to get a free ride through airport security?
Might as well just get rid of the security!
Rudi,
I agree with “payoff.” I’m sure that the bomb tokers have a license and a passport, too. Seems slightly ridiculous to me. Not sure I want to line the pockets of the so-called “Fly Clear.”
Joe,
I appologize for the slip-up of calling you Rudy.
Joe - We just had a visitor that had this. It was my understanding that having the card just lets him cut to the front of the line & he still goes through security. In addition, to be eligible to cut he had to have a finger print scan and iris scan that he verifies at the machine with the card at the airport. He only had used it a couple of times so far (and was going to use it here in Denver when he left) but so far he liked it.
Thanks Laura.
I guess if you travel out of busy airports often, it may be worth it to cut the line.
