Has this happened to you? Your fancy real estate sign has just been planted in the front yard of your brand-spanking-new listing and you get a call from the homeowner —- their cable is out, their computer is not working, the sprinkler system is kaput and the dogs ran away because the invisible pet fence was deactivated. The client is rightly upset because your “For Sale” sign cut the lines. Not a good first impression. (your smiling face on the sign doesn’t make it any better)
Oops, you forgot to call the utility company to have the lines marked and you forgot to ask the homeowner if they had a sprinkler system or invisible pet fence buried where you planned to stick your cool “For Sale” post. Not only will you look bad in front of the client, you’ll have to make a bunch of calls and pay to make things right. Don’t make this rookie mistake. (some laws require you to call the utility company before you post a sign)
And here’s a tip. Put a flag where the sign will be placed and have them only mark the area around the sign (if they’ll do that). Otherwise, they’ll mark all the lines and you’ll get a lawn full of day-glo orange spray paint. Yes, the rain will wash it away eventually but it doesn’t look good. Besides, you may be in southern California where it never rains and you got a home with distracting curb appeal. The seller is really beginning to dislike you.

Hi Joe ~ I think you would quite a marksman if you were able to knock out all those items at once
While destroying someone’s life, as that sign in the picture clearly has done, its almost just as bad as when some late night prankster drives by and smashes your sign into nano-pieces..
