Twitter has bought Summize, the Twitter search engine– it’s now called Twitter Search.
Here’s the news breaking interview with Twitter co-founder, Evan Williams.
Some takeaways:
What did Twitter pay for Summize?
The usual for a start up — stock options and a little scratch.
Is Twitter going to sell your 140 characters?
Twitter really doesn’t seem to have a definite plan with respect to monetizing the content, which they believe is theirs. They’re pretty much content to give it out to almost anyone who wants it. Hmm.. Well, sure, we twittering fools understand that our 140 characters are going to twitter for publication on the site but I’m not sure everyone would want their words sent all over the place. (gotta read their Terms of Use)
If you’re using Twitter for business, you might have to pay something in the future — someone’s gotta pay to fix all those brown-outs. But Evan says they really don’t know the revenue model yet. (Twitter did get chief tech guy in the Summize deal and slaying the T-whale may be the first order of business.)
Free Speech on Twitter:
Twitter does not want to be a censor. They will take down borderline criminal stuff but want to remain “very liberal” to allow disagreement.
