Game one = Yankees Win!
Score: Yankees 8 Tigers 4
DEREK JETER…..DEREK JETER…..DEREK JETER
5 For 5 Player of the Game
Update:
Yanks eliminated 3 games to 1. Maybe George should clean house and get the team younger. We need chemistry and not an all-star team.
See you in spring training.

Oh Sellsius, say it isn’t so. Rooting for Goliath - where’s the pride in that? Go Tigers. Oh how they truly deserve it.
jim - as a lifelong diehard yankees fan, there is no other choice for me. it’s in the blood my friend.

At least it is in your blood. My dad was from Brooklyn and loved the Dodgers back in the day, never any love for the Yanks from him. My mom is from upstate NY and did grow up with a love for the Yanks (but really never follows sports so I wouldn’t call her a die hard fan).
Of course they were working in Philadelphia (actually Camden, which is why I’m so scary) when I was born so my blood runs a different color. Which is why I hate the freaking Yanks, Mets, Giants, Jets, Isles, Rags, and Knicks (I did like the Cosmos though.. go figure).
I loathe the Yanks and root against them. The 80’s were a fun time for me and my hatred. Some of the 90’s as well. But now rooting against the Yanks is like rooting against Tiger Woods. It is hard to beat excellence and the Yanks sure are excellent (at least on offense).
I moved to AZ a year before the D-backs beat the Yanks in the WS. I was in Phoenix the night of game 6 and caught the game in Tempe. Game was over quickly. We were in town to catch the Eagles play the Cards on Sunday. After the football game we tried to get tickets for game 7, but no luck. It’s a 3 hour ride home to my humble little town from Phoenix. As we were leaving town we saw the Stealth Bomber that flew over the stadium from our car. Goosebumps. I raced home as quickly as I could. I had radio coverage till just about 25 miles to home. So I knew the score. Got home in time for the bottom of the 9th.
Sweet!! Mariano blew it!! Glad I got to see it, because really when do you ever get to see something like that??
I’m sure loving the Yanks is great and all, but hating them is probably just as much fun.
Good luck this year, and thank me for Abreau later.
todd - that’s a great story! as they saying goes, you either love them or you hate them. funny thing, even though i love the yankees, rangers, jets and knicks, i do not “hate” any other team. i just love my teams, regardless of whether they win or loose. i’m not the type of person who jumps on the bandwagon just because a team is winning or is popular. nor am i the type of person who changes teams when the playoffs come around. i have a friend who doesn’t watch sports all year long and when the playoffs arrive, he starts rooting for the team that is most popular. arrrgghhh…
so if there was another subway series, who would you hate more?
we’ll see how it goes. october baseball…gotta love it!

p.s. i thank the boss for abreau
The only reason I ‘hate’ the Yanks is because of New York evny. There, it’s been said.
Hate is healthy in sports in my opinion. In sports I say, and I’m not talking about the kind of hate as in the hate we see in worldly matters. Hate sometimes is a show of respect. Hey the Cowboys are heading to Philly this weekend, my hate meter is off the charts at this very moment.
I’ll tell you this, when I lived in Vegas I played in an adult hockey league and there was new team that joined our league. Their team name was the Rangers and they wore Ranger sweaters. I didn’t know one guy from that team, but all the same I circled that game on my schedule. I got so amped up before the game because in my mind I was playing the Rags (this is when Mess was still on the team but probably 96 a couple of years after the won the Cup). I didn’t see a bunch of players I didn’t know, I saw Mess, Leetch, Richter, Ulfie, and others and I wanted them to pay. I finished some checks that night, in a non checking league. Took some penalties too, stupidly. We ended up losing the game but it was one of the most memorable games I have ever played. All because I hate the Rangers.
For clarification, I don’t hate the fans and I’m talking THE fans (as you alluded to). Another quick anecdote, I was able to take in a Ranger game at the Garden in my early teens. Sat in the famous ‘blues’ for seats. Learned plenty of new vocabulary that I could never repeat here. It’s another reason why I don’t hate THE fans. Of course I didn’t wear my Flyers gear and I did join in the Potvin Sucks chant (even though the Rags were playing the Caps that night).
BTW, I’m thanking the Boss for picking up the tab on Abreau as well. he was a dog this year and was underperforming. I’m not surprised that he is fitting in there in the Yanks lineup… I’d fit in. I am pulling for him though because he did play very well for a number of years with the Phillies, it was just time to move on.
Yankee hate usually equals Yankees envy.
todd - well said! i guess i’d call it competitive fever - all in good fun. when the rangers play the flyers or islanders i get that fever. same goes for the yankees red sox rivalry. intense! sometimes, what happens in the stands is more fun than what happens on the ice or field
I can explain it all in one simple sentence.
I am a Red Sox fan.
Always have been, always will be. Born and raised in Massoftwoshits.
jim - aren’t the red sox playing golf now?
C’mon sellsius. This isn’t fair. I thought you were running a real estate blog. I’m with Jim! But since I took the time to write thsi post…here is a link for ya to post — http://youtube.com/watch?v=hnieMQ0P4M0
condo blog - red sox fans? how about you post that on your own blog?
it’s all in good fun. thanks for playing along…
If you ever find me commenting on a sports post, then you know a team from The D is in the playoffs. GOooooooooooooooo Tigers!
maureen - nice to know you’re a fan! hopefully this rain delay doesn’t last too long.
Mets take game one. Perhaps we shall meet in a few weeks?
I was born on Long Island, and born a Mets fan. The interesting thing is that I am a Mets fan because my Dad is a Mets fan. My Dad is a Mets fan because both of his brothers are Yankees fans.
Let’s Go Mets!
LOL - WOW, A Yankee Hater, a Red Sox Fan and a Mets fan.. all in the same place.. How did you let that happen Sellsius? Don’t you have any control over here?
christine - isn’t it fun? what’s your team? being that your located in bayside, queens i’d bet you’re a met fan too.
daniel - your father has some smart brothers
all kidding aside, i was hoping to see a subway series but with el duque and pedro out for the rest of the playoffs, it will be tough for the mets. they do have a good team though.
A Yankee Fan through and through. Its so funny to watch the Met/Yankee series though. The Met fans think the Yankee fans are bad… Ohhhhhh.. puullleeaasse. Its like watching big kids have temper tantrums. I have seen more fights at Shea than in Yankee’s stadium.. BUT - they are great series - just wear protective gear and keep the kids at home.
Eh.. not so good today.
Sometimes you’re the windshield and sometimes you’re the fly. But hope springs eternal. I’m just waiting for the Eagles game.

Me too.
congrats detroit. you showed a lot of heart.
a
sadembarrassing day for yankee fans. it’s time to clean house and start fresh.Ouch.
You must have jinxed them by getting all jazzed up ’bout jete’s 5 for 5.
Slappy McBluelips will forever watch the world series from his 60″ flatscreen. No RBIs in 10 post season games… man oh man. 5 tools playa left looking like the tool.
I feel your pain. See you in ‘07. All 19 games worth.
