Back in January 2007, Zillow revealed to us they were going into the rental market. Now they have.
Now people can list property for rent on Zillow. The cost is $9.95 for 180 days — “or until the home is rented” (according to Zillow blog). [Interestingly, all listings are displayed as "featured"-- I wonder why, since there are no un-featured listings?]
While the Home Page says Homes for rent, it apparently allows rentals of condo and co-op apartments (and multi-family) . You can also set up email alerts for rentals.

“In today’s volatile housing market, many would-be sellers are opting to rent for a few years and ride out the market, while many home shoppers are just trying to decide whether to buy or rent,” Spencer Rascoff, Zillow’s chief operating officer, said in a statement.
“With the launch of rental listings and search we are arming our more than 8 million monthly users with information, tools and options to make the right housing decisions for them today,” he said. Reuters
SEARCH RENTALS BY MONTHLY PAYMENT
The coolest feature is the ability to search for rentals by monthly payment.
Zillow is also offering a feature that allows a user to search by monthly payment, allowing home shoppers to simultaneously find for-sale and for-rent homes, based on a monthly payment they can afford, the company said.
The more Zillow moves away from computer home valuation, the more I like them. So, let me suggest to them this cool rental tool, MapThatPad. (tell Nihaar I sent you)
RENTAL LISTING INPUT
Here are the RENTAL listing input pages. You can post unlimited photos: (Find a

Only landlords or authorized agents are allowed to list property for rent.
BUGS
1. While the listing details are expansive & allow for text additions, the “Review & purchase listing” shows only a small portion of the listing and left out my deposit and other comments. Clicking Edit removed my comments (including a url I added).
2. Although the default setting in Pets is Unspecified , the listing on review says Pets OK.
[Bugs are normal. Since I am often hired to review/debug websites, I couldn't help testing a few things here.]
In any case, Good luck, Zillow, with the rental features.
For history, here are the first rentals (12). (click twice to enlarge image)
